A Postal Service study recommends closing part of its mail processing center at 1150 North McDowell Blvd. and moving some operations to Oakland.
About 34 of the North Bay center’s 360 jobs could be affected, the Postal Service said. The consolidation would save about $1 million a year.
Two postal worker unions are critical of the plan, saying it would cost jobs and delay local mail delivery. Postal officials said mail service would not be affected.
The Postal Service will explain the proposal and hear comments at 6 p.m. Thursday (January 20, 2011) at the Petaluma Community Center, 320 N. McDowell Blvd.
