The Washington Post’s Ed O’Keefe reports on Twitter that Postmaster General Pat Donahoe plans to
cut about 2,000 postmasters, or the people responsible for running post offices.
Those cuts would impact about 30% of administrative workers, about 10% of overall USPS workforce.
to cut about 7,500 jobs.
close and/or consolidate about 10 of the Postal Service’s 74 district offices.
Well Management is not the only problem with the Post Office losing money. I also am a 204b and it makes me sick when clerks are filing greviances on me beacause I pused an empty APC out of the way. How much does this kind of thing cost the USPS a year BILLIONS?
I thank the USPS for a good job for 30 years. I loved every opportunity that was provided to me. I worked every thing from the floor in the plant to upstairs in the Finance office. Worked with a lot of good employees and a lot of bad ones! Carried mail in my pickup truck when it was necessary. USPS was a great place to work in the day. Today, is a different story. The lazy emps and the silly bosses are causing the downfall of the company. Nothing can be done with either of them. So happy to see that the redundant questions will not be required to be asked on the window any more. Give the busy P.O.’s more clerk hours and take care of the Customers.
I can only speak about my experience about WASTE.
In our office we have lowered/raised our ceiling and change our light fixtures at least 5 times in 9 years, In 15 years have to be at least 7 times changed our central Air Condition system (Vents twice) I say MOST Pm’s and Supervisors that I have seen regards Clerks and Carriers as liabilities instead as assets of the organization. The brow beating leads to low morale. The abuse of the discipline system I would guess cost OUR P.O. at least $300,000.00 a year. I can go on and on but I wish/hope that these people when they are RELIEVED of their jobs take the time and reflect.
Someone was saying “do you really thing the Post Offices will run with out supervision?” hmmmm, well, all the whiners who say managers and supervisors will be able to show their true grit. LOL
They will fix all their problems by cutting another 20% of City Carrier routes and insist that the Carriers now RUN their respective routes in USPS approved running shoes and also give back a minimum of 2 hours of under time daily, this way every carrier can take on an additional route and a half providing the fat assed Supervisor and Post Master in their respective offices to receive a large Pay for Performance Bonus the following December!
I am an OIC in a small office. I have the only retail location in my town. If you think that it will all end by closing the small offices you are mistaken. The more you take away a service, the more the customer will seek an alternative. When the 30 year carriers are gone, the clerks are gone, and you close all the small offices, who do you think will run the sevice in the next ten years? Personally, I am confident that I can find another part-time job that pays what this one does. The real question is, why shouldn’t we be allowed to make a profit? I think if you let us sell something besides stamps I could make a healthy profit. The other thing is this, is the PS a company or a service By that, I mean, does the Coast Guard make a profit? Hom much revenue does the Army bring in? At some point they have to realize that in the event of emergency or disaster, the PS is it once you leave the big city. Anyway, as we used to say in the publishing business: “Good luck with that project”
Hello. i have only been with the PO for 9 years in maintenance. It seem that most supervisors have gotten their job through eeos , nepotism , relative or spending time under the bosses desk. allmost all are incompetant. yes its way overstaffed with make work jobs. I used to have a real job and the ratio was 1 supervisor to 20 workers. on our shift we have 4 supervisors for 8 workers! yes they need to clean house.
Yeah, there are some good postmasters, but the majority couldn’t hold down a retail job at K-Mart. We had one postmaster who thought he was god’s gift to the post office(and women). When they finally forced him in to retirement, he got a job as a manager at a auto supply store and got fired within 3 weeks for incompetence. Did I feel for him losing his job, yes but, that’s the real world, and that’s the trouble with management and some craft employees. They don’t understand the real world outside the post office, it’s brutal. So treat everyone with respect, because that person behind the counter at McDonald’s might be you.

I am so proud to have employees like you to work for the USPS. I gave my all for the USPS. I am enjoying my retirement. I did not receive any incentives when I left, I just couldn’t take it any more!
